Technical nuggets
Book of the month:
The Way Out!
1. Welcome
Welcome
to another edition of the Residual Magic newsletter. If you are worried
about the global downturn you don't need to be - after 15 years in and
around the home-based business market I have never seen such good
conditions for people to set up additional income streams.
If you want to thrive not
just survive in the 'New Economy' you need to do 2 things:
Embrace technology - especially the
Internet;
Learn new skills
With Breeze and iLG (see
below) you can help people with both of these.
You might wonder why I
haven't renamed this the 'Brian Tracy Fan Club Newsletter' -
there's a superb guest article, quote of the
month, video and a chapter in the Book of the Month. Well, Brian was in the UK last weekend and I am now
working with him in iLearningGlobal (iLG).
Whilst Breeze remains
my 'day-job' (update below), iLG fills an important gap in my product
portfolio and really resonates with me. This is attracting such big
names in the business world that I want to get word out to everyone I
know. I'm 'pushing' iLG heavily in this edition because I don't want
anyone to say "Richard, I wish you had told me about this." I urge you
to check it out very carefully (it will happily run alongside whatever
you are doing.)
All the best
Richard Wall, North
Yorkshire, UK.
2. Quotes of the month
"Everyone knows what’s
going on in the economy right now - during this period in history some
people are frozen and living in fear while others are getting stronger
and innovative to take advantage of new opportunities." Tony Robbins
"It is not what
happens to you that counts. It is how you react to what happens to you,
especially when you have unexpected problems of any kind." Brian Tracy
3.
A fresh Breeze
Breeze has come on such a long way in
the past 3 years... what started out as a $3,990 'business
opportunity' has evolved into a $997 package to teach anyone how to
have a successful online business and see results within 4 hours or
less. And that's a 3 year package.
The 'opportunity' is still there however
the products are now the focus which makes the opportunity stronger
in the long term. If you have a website and you are not getting lots
of free traffic or if you have an idea but don't know where to start
Breeze will help you. Even if you don't have an idea Breeze can
help. Maybe your passion is fly fishing, dog breeding or train
spotting... Breeze will teach you how to 'monetarise your hobby'.
To 'walk the walk' I am starting a brand
new project... using the Breeze training and a new domain. I'll keep
you posted!
I wasn't looking
for another income stream and definitely not
an MLM one. Indeed I'm on record as saying I would
never go down the MLM route again. Never say
never.
iLearningGlobal is irresistible - even if you
have looked at it, you might have missed
something so I urge you to look again.
iLG will be a
billion dollar company in a few short
years... you can sit on the sidelines and
watch it happen or you can be one of the
people who help make it happen. The concept
is radical, the technology is very impressive
however it is the people behind iLG which
are to me the key factor.
If you could
change your life completely by changing less
than 1% of your daily routine would you do
it? By investing 7 minutes per day (roughly
½% of 24 hours) in yourself and your
education you can dramatically improve your
skills and get more out of your life.
In our fast
paced world many of us do not have an hour a
day to spend on our continuing education.
iLearningGlobal has divided its Hi-Def
content into 7-9 minute segments; packed
with valuable material so that you can take
your education in bytes (pun intended).
Directly from the experts in personal
development, business, sales, finance,
teens, parenting, relationships and much
more.
The average
person will increase their salary by
only 2-3% annually.
Each year
inflation increases by approximately
2-3% annually.
That means
that, without lifelong learning, it’s
virtually impossible for the average
person to get ahead.
However...
Top
Achievers, people who are continually
learning and growing, DOUBLE their
income every 3-5 years.
This is why the
top 10-20% earns more than the bottom 80%!
To separate yourself from the pack, you
often need to know just one additional
skill… and that will make all the difference
in your pay scale.
Learning is a
life long journey...
...make it easy on yourself & learn from the
experts.
Three Skills to Improve Conversation
By: Brian Tracy
One key to becoming a great conversationalist is
to pause before replying. A short pause, of
three to five seconds, is a very classy thing to
do in a conversation. When you pause, you
accomplish three goals simultaneously.
The Benefits of Pausing
First, you avoid running the risk of
interrupting if the other person is just
catching his or her breath before continuing.
Second, you show the other person that you are
giving careful consideration to his or her words
by not jumping in with your own comments at the
earliest opportunity. The third benefit of
pausing is that you will actually hear the other
person better. His or her words will soak into a
deeper level of your mind and you will
understand what he or she is saying with greater
clarity. By pausing, you mark yourself as a
brilliant conversationalist.
Ask Questions
Another way to become a great conversationalist
is to question for clarification. Never assume
that you understand what the person is saying or
trying to say. Instead, ask, "How do you mean,
exactly?"
This is the most powerful question I've ever
learned for controlling a conversation. It is
almost impossible not to answer. When you ask,
"How do you mean?" the other person cannot stop
himself or herself from answering more
extensively. You can then follow up with other
open-ended questions and keep the conversation
rolling along.
Paraphrase the Speaker's Words
The third way to become a great
conversationalist is to paraphrase the speaker's
words in your own words. After you've nodded and
smiled, you can then say, "Let me see if I've
got this right. What you're saying is . . ."
Demonstrate Attentiveness
By paraphrasing the speaker's words, you
demonstrate in no uncertain terms that you are
genuinely paying attention and making every
effort to understand his or her thoughts or
feelings. And the wonderful thing is, when you
practice effective listening, other people will
begin to find you fascinating. They will want to
be around you. They will feel relaxed and happy
in your presence.
Listening Builds Trust
The reason why listening is such a powerful tool
in developing the art and skill of conversation
is because listening builds trust. The more you
listen to another person, the more he or she
trusts you and believes in you.
Listening also builds self-esteem. When you
listen attentively to another person, his or her
self-esteem will naturally increase.
Listening Develops Discipline
Finally, listening builds self-discipline in the
listener. Because your mind can process words at
500-600 words per minute, and we can only talk
at about 150 words per minute, it takes a real
effort to keep your attention focused on another
person's words. If you do not practice
self-discipline in conversation, your mind will
wander in a hundred different directions. The
more you work at paying close attention to what
the other person is saying, the more
self-disciplined you will become. In other
words, by learning to listen well, you actually
develop your own character and your own
personality.
Action Exercises
Here are two things you can do immediately to
put these ideas into action.
First, make a habit of pausing before replying
in any conversation or discussion. You will be
amazed at how powerful this technique really is.
Second, continually ask, "How do you mean?" in
response to anything that is not perfectly
clear. This gives you even more time to listen
well.
If you do a lot of logging in to
Internet websites it takes up a lot of time putting in your user
name and password every time. Roboform does all this for you with
one click of the mouse. This is one of those programs that you
wonder how you managed without it. There's a free version available
