Welcome to another edition of the Residual Dream newsletter. I hope you find a nugget or two... there's even a quote from Madonna this month!

You are no doubt aware that I am focusing my attention on a company called Breeze. It is the most powerful business opportunity I have seen... it has all the ingredients needed and is starting to attract some wonderful people. Pyramid Selling Can Be Fun

Those of us involved in home-based business opportunities often get the dreaded question "is it pyramid selling"?

We have a choice of answers. We could take a gamble and say "yes it is pyramid selling and it's great"? However it might be better to be defensive and reply "pyramid selling is illegal, no it definitely isn't pyramid selling." Or maybe a more tentative approach which I used a while ago: "well, um, most corporations have a structure like a pyramid and um, yes we have a shape like that but er, no this is, um, not pyramid selling."

Pyramid selling is indeed illegal and the regulations are strict. Two of the golden rules are: the products and services must stand up without the business opportunity and commissions should only flow from product sales not from recruits. So technically "is it pyramid selling?" is an easy one to answer.

OK, so we're not pyramid selling. But it's not much fun having to be on the defensive, especially to our friends and colleagues. If you get the dreaded question, there's a much better way of responding. Just say "why do you ask?" Then sit back and listen and you will then find out what your prospect is really saying - for example "is it multi level marketing?", "is it illegal" or "do I have to sell to my friends?"

Most of us don't like selling. It's a lot more fun for you and your prospect if you change your posture from salesperson to interviewer. It doesn't matter how wonderful your business opportunity is and how wonderful you think your prospect is... it all depends on what is going on in their life. You must find that out before launching into any telling and selling about your business.

So from now on, when you receive an enquiry from a prospect, all you need do is ask their permission for you to ask them a few questions. Then develop rapport to get a handle on why they might be looking for an additional income. Ask them on a scale of 1-10 how motivated they are to find something. It's that score out of 10 that will determine whether or not they are a good prospect.

Don't worry, there will be times when you slip back into the habit of giving straight answers. A friend in our village said a few years ago, soon after my MLM debut, "It's not bloody Amtrak is it?" I think he meant Amway. I took the easy option and said "no". Just think, if I had said "why do you ask?" I might have been a squillionaire by now.

7. Book of the month

I’ve just read a great book by Robin Sharma, one of the world’s top success coaches and author of “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari.” It’s called ‘The Greatness Guide” and is one of the best personal development books I have read. If you are looking for some golden nuggets to help you be more successful and better enjoy life’s journey, this is a must read. Here’s a little quote: “Each day, life will send you little windows of opportunity. Your destiny will ultimately be defined by how you respond to these windows of opportunity."
